More than "just" a kitchen
True to the Varia motto "The kitchen for life," kitchens have become a central point for families, friends, in short, life itself in today's times.
We cook, communicate, laugh, and tidy up. What's not so pleasant is having clothes racks, ironing boards, cleaning supplies, and the like as a backdrop.
The almost forgotten utility room has recently made a comeback. It houses things we use every day, but don't want everyone to see right away. Especially in city apartments, there's rarely a suitable space or basement for things needed for housework.
The kitchen as a meeting point and communication center
Since the kitchen is becoming more and more the focal point of life in the home, the rumbling washing machine with its accompanying utensils is less welcome. That much is clear. But where to put it?
Not everyone has enough space to provide an extra room for the utility room. The solution is simple and ingenious at the same time: the multifunctional utility room is adjacent to the kitchen. Long distances are avoided, yet the coziness of the kitchen is preserved.
It is a perfectly planned, well-thought-out workspace. Laundry, storage for supplies, waste separation and recycling, or even cleaning shoes and outdoor equipment - everything has its place here. Practicality and function come first, followed by form and design.
Washing machine, dryer, and other appliances disappear into the cabinet.
Usually, appliances take up a lot of space, especially when placed side by side, and if there's no space in the basement. Stacking them in a cabinet keeps them tidy and securely stored.
The freed-up space can be utilized for a clever cabinet system, where not only detergents and other helpers are stored, but also laundry baskets can be integrated on top of each other, as well as a clothesline and ironing board. A well-thought-out arrangement makes every laundry process more ergonomic and efficient.
Order and storage space as central points
Just like in the kitchen, the functionality of the utility room revolves around storage space and organization. Properly planned, everything finds its designated place here as well, and the storage of beverages, cleaning supplies, shoes, and the vacuum cleaner is facilitated by specially sorted cabinets. The room becomes multifunctional, while maintaining order and clarity.
The topic of waste separation also parallels the kitchen, where we talk about containers for glass, deposit bottles, and recyclables, which have their place behind the fronts and do not stand unsightly in the room.
Depending on the available space, there are various ways to arrange the cabinets: compact as a double line, single line for small rooms, and in more spacious rooms as a U-shaped solution for ideal functionality.
